RESOLUTION:
Quick Fix: Settings --> System Settings --> UMD Cache --> Off

[hr]

System Specs (PSP)
Model Number: PSP-2002 PB
Serial Number:
Firmware Version: 3.71

Game Specs
Region: 4
Other Details: ULES 00740 0252616

Quick Identified Issue
Freezes

When I play a mission in Driver: 76 it freezes at a particular point of the mission.

Then I go to play a different mission and the same thing happens after a couple of minutes within that mission. A few moments after it freezes it makes a loud noise and turns off.

I have played another game and that game has never frozen before so I belieave it has nothing to do with my psp.

I found a resolution and updated the above thread with more information on fixing this problem which occurs with all the PSP Slim & Light Consoles.

Driver 76 on PSP.
If you get a new psp you have to get the PSP Slim and Light unless you know of stores with lots of old stock. It's cheaper and better to get the never version of the psp you just have to change a setting to get Driver: 76 on PSP working properly.

Just go to the settings tab on the XMB bar
then go to System Settings
find UMD Cache
then turn it off

UMD Cache saves the possible loaded segments from the game into the PSP's memory.

In other terms...

It reads data from the UMD and stores it into memory, reducing the number of times it has to spin up the disk, resutling in longer battery life.

Well it also increases loading times as well as saving battery life.
It's a great feature, unfortunately it doesn't work to well with Driver '76.

Hopefully Ubisoft can do something about this and maybe they can get sony to add something in their next firmware package.
