Discussion for Driver 2: Back on the Streets [EU] / Driver 2: The Wheelman is Back [US] (2000)

With epsxe 2.0, the developers have introduced a cpu overclock feature, which, if you set to 4x, allows the retail version of driver 2 to run (mostly) at the intended frame rate. My copy tends to freeze for a fraction of a second at points, but it is still quite good. I HIGHLY recommend using amigod's gpu plugin and the peops sound plugin set to timer for this to work well.

Found this out at the weekend, thought you guys might like to know.

Well, it was mentioned in the topic last replied to before this. Regardless, I can confirm it is a f***ing dream to re-play using ePSXe v2 and the CPU overclock. Unfortunately the widescreen hack doesn't work so well for Driver 2, but other games look simply fantastic with it on. Case in point: Alien Resurrection, which I'm playing with WASD and a mouse.

those freezes are probably because your playing the game directly from the cd rom I recommend making a disk image and using that to play the game instead

No, the freezes are a normal part of Driver 2. I dunno what makes it happen; I'd hazard a guess that the city is broken into chunks and assets are loaded and unloaded as you move between these zones. It's not really even an issue, just a half-second stop every once in a while.

weird It doesn't freeze or me try lowering the resolution to 2x cause 4x has performance issues even on a gtx 970

I can't recall ever playing Driver 2 without those little pauses, not that I really even would have noticed; the game performs perfectly fine with the CPU overclock. This is seriously making a mountain out of a molehill. I take much more issue with the atrocious draw distance than a little freeze every ten minutes.
