That guy is a good writer, I think, with an almost impeccable grasp of the subject matter. He has an effective vocabulary, knows the right words to use in a given context. Good grammar skills, too. I not only admire all that, but envy it as well.
Since the author brought it up in his article, I hope it will be okay for me to say that I think one other thing that made GTA III so popular was all the obscenity and vividly graphic violence. They could have put that in their old 2D engine and sold a million billion copies of the game probably. It would seem that ‘sick’ sells, period. DRIVER has class. I guess that is probably a pretty predictable comment coming from a guy who prefers classic films made for a general audience over those that offer you more swearing than a Postal Dude rant, slow-motion multiviews of heads splitting apart, or sex scenes so gratuitous you almost find yourself being smeared with the actors’ bodily secretions.
Thank you again for posting this, man. I enjoyed reading that. If I had not already played through DRIVER 2 twice this year, I might have been inspired to do so now. Yes, twice, plus all the previous times, and I still find myself saying, after reading such an article, “Oh, so that is what that game was about.â€
DRIVER 2 is one of my favorite games to play, and to look at. What if they had made a PC version and included a simple drag-and-drop map-building feature? I would probably still playing that instead of DSF in 2012, or whenever it will be that I finally buy DSF.
