Playing Driver on Windows 10

After upgrading to Windows 10 today, I realized that Driver was unplayable. Since I was running Windows 8.1 previously, I was using the DDraw.dll and Sound fix for all my stability/usability issues from the other post in this part of the forum. When I booted up with game with the DDraw.dll in the root folder, I only got a black screen, if I removed it, video worked. So remove DDraw.dll if you want video to work! Secondly, the game music continued to work from the sound fix, but no effects were playing (car sounds, sirens, horns, menu click, etc). Somehow the game got automatically muted in the Windows Volume Mixer panel, so if you have no sound, go there and unmute it! That should be all that is needed to get the game running on W10.

SIDENOTE: The game works amazing even without the DDraw.dll on Windows 10. I don't know if it is DirectX 12 or what. But if you're on W8/8.1 you NEED the dll to fix the performance issues.

nope my pc get's the intended 50 fps, it's all about your hardware. windows 10 runs this like how it would on windows XP. windows 8 has terrible performance for some reason though. something about direct draw.

Should've known it was all about hardware stuff. Oh, well. Will get something new for that, I guess.

the reason people get issues is because not all modern hardware is compatible with directx 6

Just stick with Windows 7 for gaming. I don't think there's any games out there that require Windows 8 or above to run.

Use Retro Compability mode. Windows 7 can run it just fine.

I got an original Driver CD and unfortunately can not get the game to work. I have tried all the compatibility options and also copied the DDraw.dll file into the main directory. All no success. I always get the message that the game can not be started. When I start the configuration file, I get the message, that no 3D graphics card is found.
My PC Specs: Intel i7, Geforce Titan X, 64GB RAM, Windows 10

Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks for the tip. I did not manage it unfortunately.

"Just had to configure dgVoodoo" - how??? Do you have to put the dgvoodoo file into the game directory? That is very vague.
"and transfer all the files to Driver folder and voilá...." which files??? All Glide files? All D-files??

I've been trying a lot, but that's at least too fiddly for me, so now I'm giving up and watching driver videos on youtube to bring back my memories. :?

Thanks again.

Jesus Christ....you buy a meme tier PC like that and you can't even do something that simple. I bet it's a prebuilt, too.

Ignore PostalDude, he hates on everything, Anyways here's a direct link to what you may need exactly to help you set up DGVoodoo and figure out how to get Driver running:

https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Driver#Issues_fixed
http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/QuickGuide.html

I don't have Windows 10, so I don't really know all the specifics myself, but I'd assume you just copy everything from the DgVoodoo into your Driver folder.

He said right there in his post he gave up, so your little spoonfeeding routine just went to waste.

I understood what he said, but if he changes his mind and comes back to try again, the links and guides are still there. Also, it's not spoon-feeding, everyone needs assistance every once in a while.
