Discussion for Driver [EU] / Driver: You are the Wheelman [US] (1999)
#54898
Sorry to make another thread, but I need some help again. (That didn't take long lol)

Anyways, as the subject says, I can't get my textured vehicle to appear normally in-game.

Here it is in 3DS Max, I know it's a bit too modern but hey, it looks nice!
Image

In-game however... not so much. I also have a few language errors

So can someone please explain how to do this :?:

Edit: I tought I should upload the texture as well, so here it is:

So importing cars with current tools is a bit tricky (sorry!). What are you using to import it?

Also, the language errors probably mean that you were using a non-USA version before, so you'll have to rename your language files to .usa and it should work.

Ok, here's a pair of links to my .OBJ and .MTL files:

why
Why would a car like this make sense in a game like Mafia, set in 1930s? Yet someone still made it, so this one is far less out of place than you think :P The old M635Ci was an option, but I already modeled the 7Series before, so tought of trying with it.

EDIT: As for Importing and Exporting via another program, will Blender be a good choice for this?

EDIT (Again!) I used Driver Car Importer Release 4 to import the car, or at least try to :P Also, the model needs to be moved slightly, it doesn't match the wheels perfectly, too bad the wheel positions aren't visible in models themselves.

Yes, this is the better choice in the free 3d softwares category.
Here is a link with a tutorial for Blender, made by a member a while ago. But some pictures are broken .

Indeed you have to scale and move your 3d model to respect the wheels's position. So you probably need to choose a car model who is closer to your 3d model.

One suggestion: about your Bmw model, i think it's not necessary to create the interior, because it will not be visible once in the game, and also because the car's body is in one piece. So it will allow you to save some polygons ( unless you want to create a convertible model of course).

Thanks for the help, altough the model wasn't made for in-game use in the first place, otherwise I wouldn't make an interior. I wonder if transparent windows will ever be possible to make... probably not considering there is only one texture per model. I'm moving on to Blender then.

EDIT: And here it is in-game, Yay! :specialdriver:

If anyone else wants to drive around in it I'll add it to the downloads section. My next car will probably be something more fitting for the game's setting.

Not too bad. I think all the help you have is good how it is. Sorry for off topic, but do you take car requests?

do you take car requests?
If you wanna request something, PM me and I'll see what I can do. I usually take requests when I'm out of ideas.
People that do that are idiots, end of story. Mafia is a game meant to be played stock.
That's your opinion. I just see this as the freedom of modding.

As far as I know there was only a vertex limit which was 256, thankfully Driver Car Importer has a Vertex Patch that removes this. As for textures, they have to be the same size as the original ones (256x256 Pixels) , and saved as a 24-bit Bitmap.

Edit: I didn't make a damage model, but you can just use damaged textures and the model won't change but it will look damaged, to some extent at least. If there's no damage model, the game just copies the clean model, and reads the damaged textures. You can either try to make the damage textures or just play with "No Damage" set to on. That way your texture won't get messed up when you crash the car

I call it doing whatever the f**k you like. It's his game. He can use it however he wants to. He doesn't need to be your b*t*h and take what you say.

The BMW I made was created through trial and error. I tried making another car and did everything I did to make the BMW work properly, yet my textures don't load properly.
Image
What confuses me here is that part of the texture (in this case the license plates) are properly mapped. The model, when exported from 3DS max, has no texture at all, and the result of exporting it via Blender are that of the image above. Now, how can this be fixed?
This is how the car should look like:
Image
Note that the textures are far from perfect, but this is the best I could do. I apologize for asking the same question twice, but I just can't understand why this happens.

It has something to do with a 256-vertex limit. The vertex patch was supposed to fix this issue, but it was never fully implemented.

Try getting in touch with someone972. He's the guy who created the tool.

LONEW3LF and I made a vehicle mod for Driver 1 (He made textures, and I made its model), and DCI is just f***ing up its textures. The texture size is 256x256 pixels, and the vehicle itself goes WAY over the vertex limit. This problem needs to be repaired, DCI is a bit limited.
