Discussion for Driver [EU] / Driver: You are the Wheelman [US] (1999)

HI all,

I first wanna say that this game is an absolute classic. A friend and I decided to give this game another play through and we're having a blast. I luckily found this board to find a fix for missing trees, tires, etc. and pretty happy about it :D .

Anyways, does anyone here know how to fix the frame rate to achieve something above 30-32? The game seems to be locked at that rate no matter what setting I put on it. What does everyone else get? Thanks!

Did you try disabling vsync or framelimiter? I always prefered the PSX version over the PC so I don't have much experience nor know if there is even an option for those. GTA 3 and GTA VC ran at 30fps with framelimiter on. My second guess would be your video driver. I know with the NVIDIA drivers you can set a maximum FPS using special utilities. Although not an average joe would be able to accidentally set a max fps. Can you also post your system specs so we can get a better idea of what we are working with?

Dang. I need to figure out how to fix it because I'm locked at 30-32fps no matter what I have in-game. Any suggestions?

I haven't updated to the latest patch, should I do that? The patch looks like I need to copy and paste over the files to the GT interactive location but I wasn't sure and didn't want to mess up the game.

It sounds like you've already tried messing around with the settings in regards to the "Max FPS", so my suggestion is to completely delete your "CONFIG.DAT" file and make sure the new one is not set to "Read-only", then put in your configuration settings as usual, set Max FPS to either 50 or "Auto", and that might solve your problem. If that fails too, it could just be a bad reading on FRAPS' part.

I don't know how to get a new config.dat file without reinstalling the game. I'm not sure if I want to reinstall and risk running into more issues. Changing the in-game fps works for all settings less than 30. If I change it to 10, 12, etc. it'll actually appear to lock at that level and FRAPS tracks it accordingly.

Driver is installed to C:\Program Files (x86)\GT Interactive\Driver\ - and since you reinstalled with no success, it seems to be a bad reading from FRAPS. Why does it matter, anyways? You're probably getting the full 50FPS without realizing it.
