Oh, I guess it was in Driver (General) - Modifying that I fisrt saw DriverCrew.com mentioned.
cars358 wrote:do you do eny GOOD mods you should check this website called the drivercrew awsome mods 4 it
Back then, I couldn’t navigate too well because of ISP problems (severe ones). It turned out they were upgrading their server system or something for a while. (Then I lost track of you guys because I guess you changed hosts or whatever, and I had some trouble accessing my email account associated with DriverMadness, and didn’t see the notice Madness sent out about that).

Anyway, after I got going online again, I saw some stuff at DriverCrew.com that they were saying about getting hacked, and that's about all I could see. But recently I went back, and I noticed they had ppl in the registered members list, but I couldn’t see any content still.

So, I registered earlier this week to see if logging in over there would let me see more than I could as a visitor, because there have been some other places I went to that were like that. (Heck, I even saw some place where they wanted you to register just to see the news page and screenshots.) After a couple of days, I got an email notifying me that my account had been activated, but I couldn’t log in, and there weren’t any more names in the member list, except for this poor chap called Johnny, who runs the place, I guess. Then I went back today and saw this here message, and that’s about all that was there.
Johnny, Driver Crew.com Admin wrote: This is ridiculous. Now once again we've lost everything. Please if anyone knows anything about V-Bulletin please come on staff. I'm sick and tired of starting the board over and everyone else is sick and tired of reregistering. Soon nobody is gonna even bother.
I guess that dude has been having a tough time of it. That’s too bad.

It kind of brings me back to what I was saying to Madness about wondering how he goes about managing this place here. I guess it helps out in more ways than one to write all your own web pages, like being able to not only customize and expand as you please, but also being able to take a website with you to wherever you should like to have it hosted. It must help out a lot to be able to store your website and back it up yourself, too, to help prevent catastrophic events and such.

Hey, boss, how big is this place in terms of data quantity, anyway? Is there some statistic here that says? Oh, I see, that's not available in the Stats table. Got a rough idea, then?

Well I've just gone to the DriverCrew asking them how there site site is related to the driver series and most likely I think it will have nothing to do with the driver series. Who knows though.

But seriously mods, we were told they have mods there and all I can find is a forum with barely anything in it and a few broken pages. So I acted patiently till its all working and now I've asked that very question.

Now the first rule in owning any website is always make a backup. If you get hacked or anything like that you'll always have a backup to go back to. All of the databases are backed up on a daily basis and I do a complete forum/site/script backup once and every while. So usually there is always a backup of posts and attachment are usually backed up monthly since there so much bigger. Also all the downloads live on my laptop as well as the server so I'll also have a backup of them too.

So I've gone to their forum and have said, backup, backup and more backups and that'll avoid losing everything.

I also noticed that they said they lost everything due to a VB upgrade, that's totally there fault for not making a BACKUP. Here at Driver Madness we have come to a few close calls and I have always had a backup handy, so the most we lost was a day or two in posts.

I also know many other forum administrators and there always telling me and keep on complaining about them losing thousands of posts because they only make a backup once and every while which usually turns out to be every couple of months. It's better than anything but they should really work out some sort of daily backup.

Every day I download a 2meg compressed SQL database backup which includes all the forum posts and the forums basic structure. This backup also includes the downloads, the photo album (which I'm still working on fixing), the forum and all it's posts and things like that. All that fit in a 12mb database and when that's compressed it turns out to be around 2mb.

and your question about how much space this site uses up well. The forum only uses up around 60MB that includes all posts, the script and all the attachments as well as pictures in the photo album.

The rest of the site uses around 8gig, this includes all the downloads in the download section as well as a few complete backup of the entire site which I could revert to one day if I really had to.

Now I'd also like to mention the script for this site isn't totally created by me, it's mainly created by a very large team of about 10 or so developers who spend lots of there time creating it and looking for security holes.

Then I use their base and add onto it. I customize it and learn the way they do everything, basically they program it all in the php language and that means I really only have to know this language to add things to the sites templates and things like that.

So basically this was just a forum script and it was turned into much more, a place to download driver content, a place to read the news and shout at everyone in the shoutbox and a way to explorer all the photographs/screenshots people take in the driver games.

If it weren't for those teams of developers who create the base of the forum script it wouldn't be possible to have communities like this one and I'm the one who does the rest other than the base the person who modify it and in lots of cases you have many other people who modify it and also share there mods.

It's like a little modding community for this little forum script.

But as you know there is still a lot of work involved keeping the forum safe from everything and modifying the way it works and everything.

As you know I'm still using the default template for the original forum script so I thought everyone would know who created it's base because it's the most common forum script template.

Since I have had a few troubles with all the pages to edit, editing and modifying the design is a lot harder than everything else but I can assure you that I'm kind of working on another template it's just going to take some time. But I plan to make it look very driver like rather than a standard set of colors that make this site look very plane and general.

But isn't it easy to read and everything. Being easy on the eye.
I really like the default template and think it should stay the same because it really looks good, just lacks a little driver look.

anyways I think I answered your question already so I'll stop blabbering about everything.

While this site may be just a tad plane and not overly driverish, it still acheives the purpose it was originally created to do. Besides. if you make a bigger site it'll take me ten minutes to look at one page as opposed to the five i'm used to now.

Maybe throw up the word driver and some cool cars in the banner. and maybe change the site color.

I like the way this message board looks. It’s easy to read, too. LOL!

Thanks for the replies, boss and Daltarin-Elite. And thank you for taking due measures to ensure that stuff can’t be lost. That’s way cool, to be sure.

Yeah. It really would suck if we lost the entire sites progress and had to start again. it wouldn't be as exciting as it is now i don't think.

Americans Don't get V8 racing like we do though. We get the V8 Supercars race round Bathurst and the best they have is nascar. Bathurst is much better.

yeah well i know that but i was saying that V8 racing is pretty much the best motorsport ever. From what i see of Nascar it is just an oval track and i fail to see the excitement there.

AND

the site looks like a site a spammer would post! Making it look like something it isn't! Amazingly enough a spammer hasn't tried that yet!

But I'm still one step ahead if that was a test!

maybe he don't even exist = http://www.driv3rvids.com/

Clearly his posts were deleted but the system tried to delete a post he was in the process of making and therefore it never came up as a post but was deducted from the total making it -1 instead of 0.
