This thread is intended to document the issues and fixes for common Driver problems. If you have any improvements or other issues to add, feel free to comment and I'll add it to this post at the top.

Music Issues
  • Problem: Music does not play at all.
    Solutions:
    • 1. Make sure you have your cd player volume turned up. You can access this by right-clicking the grey speaker icon in the bottom right of the taskbar and choosing 'Open Volume Control' from the menu.
      2. In the options menu of the game, make sure that music is turned on and that the in-game volume is turned up.
      3. If the music still does not work (often the option for music keeps turning itself off), make sure that the cd has music and is playing properly. Open a media player capable of playing audio CDs and have it play track 2. If it cannot play the music then you have a problem outside the scope of this thread. If it does play properly, proceed to number 4.
      4. Driver is coded to find the first CD drive and attempt to play music from it. If you have multiple CD drives make sure that the CD is inserted into the first drive (logically, not physically).
      5. None of these fixes worked for you? Post a new thread in this forum describing your problem.
Problem: Music will play for a short time (~8 seconds) then starts over from the beginning.
    Solutions:
    • 1. This is an issue caused by Windows XP (and possibly Vista/7) breaking a function in the executable used for detecting when the song has finished. The only way to fix this is to download and install (preferably the latest version) of someone972's patches, which as of 8-19-11 can be found at http://sourceforge.net/projects/drivert ... ellaneous/
Graphical Issues
  • Problem: Solid color (green/blue etc) behind transparent objects (wheels, trees).
    Solutions:
    • 1. This can usually be solved by running the config program and setting "Primary Display Driver" under 3d Device.
Issues Related to Model Importing
  • Problem: The game crashes after importing a large model.
    Solutions:
    • 1. If you imported the model using SOAP's importer, and do not have the vertex fix patch, the game will overflow some areas of memory if the model exceeds 260 verticies. Only import models with less than 260 verticies using this importer.
      2. If you imported the model using someone972's importer (Not released as of 8/22/11), ensure that the latest patched executable and files are being used. If the model is quite large it will overflow the vertex buffers in the game, causing it to crash. The only way to fix this for now is the increase the vertex buffer size, which will increase ram used by (newsize-oldsize)*(max_num_textures+1), where max_num_textures is the number of textures it can use at any one time (default 32). The exact specifics of changing this are beyond the scope of this thread, however.
      3. If the model is not very large, the level may have become corrupted. To check to see if it opens, try opening it with the model importer (Driver Texture Editor 2.0 may crash, see issue below). If it is not able to open, replace the level with a backup (you made one of those right? ) and try again. If the problem reoccurs send a bug report to someone972sgames@hotmail.com.
      4. If the game still crashes after importing a model post a thread about it. Be sure to include the steps you used to import the model and some basic stats about the model itself, such as number of verticies.
Problem: Driver Texture Editor 2.0 crashes after importing a new model.
    Solutions:
    • 1. This is caused by the Driver Texture Editor using the same model buffer size as the original executable, thus overflowing it when a larger model is attempted to be imported. There is no fix for this as of 8/22/11. Unless the DTE is patched, you will have to use the Model Importer to open levels.
Problem: After adding textures to the level (from importing wheels etc), textures on buildings mess up.
    Solutions:
    • 1. This is caused by too many textures trying to be used at once. By default Driver has a limit of 32 textures available for use at any time. This can be fixed by downloading the latest patch from someone972. If a large number of textures has been added then the maximum number of textures might need adjusted.
Miscellaneous Issues
  • Problem: F12 screenshots come out strange colors and only show half the image stretched to the screen size.
    Solutions:
    • 1. This is caused by a bug in the program that causes it to write the 32-bit screen into a 16-bit image. The only way to fix this for 32-bit is to download and install one of someone972's patches.
      2. The screenshots will come out proper colors if the bitdepth is set to 16 in config. This however will degrade overall quality.

Your game is set for another language but uses the wrong kind of language file type extensions. Look for files that end in something like "GER" or "USA" or "FRE" (locales) and try renaming them. Ex. USA > GER, GER > FRE, FRE > USA, etc.
