Hi there - hope someone can help! I have isntalled Driv3r on my Inetl Core 2 Duo PC which has 4GB memory and a 512Mb Geforce 8800 GTX graphics card. The game installs OK and appears to start but when I have selected the player name (profile) it crashes out to windows.

I have installed (again) DirectX latest runtime.
I have updated graphics drivers to latest version.
I have updated sound coard drivers (on MBD) to latest version.

Nothing seems to work! I have tried installing patches but each time i get a message about "not being able to find retail version of Driv3r" (or similar).

The game was bought new from PC World (who are no help!) and the publisher (FOCUS) cant help either.

I have installed and got it to run on the kids computer (which is much lower spec) but whilst it runs their on MB graphics solution means it is impossible to play.

Any ideas?

Cheers. Adam.

interesting problem there... have you read the read me file of driver 3 to make sure you system doesn't make a known compatibility issue? maybe something on your system is causing the issue, out of interest what operating system are you running on your computer and your kids?

Have you tried to create a new profile? Maybe it's corrupted or something similiar.

Thanks for the two responses. In answer to the first, I am running the same XP Pro OS on both machines. I will go through the readme again but I didnt see anything obvious first time through.

Ref 2nd answer. I haven't even been able to register a profile. I wonder if using a copied profile might get me beyond this stage? Are they text files saved somewhere in game directories? Could I "mock up" one by hand?

With a system like yours I wouldn't suggest even bothering looking at your readme file. You computer is very new with technology that wasn't released when Driver 3 was released therefor it won't be included in the readme.

Plus! there are no new patches, as the product is discontinued.
But it's always worth installing the latest patches even though I'm sure it won't make a difference.

If the profile is currpt the game detects this and gives you an error message, so you can go back and load another profile.

Patches
Ignore what I said earlier in the post.
There are a couple of patches for driv3r, some may be incompatible to the release in your area. The games seem to have slight differences between the US and Europe versions.

Which patch did you try? Was it any of these?

or another one? Where did you purchase you copy of driv3r, which country!

Recent PCs

I've never played driv3r on a "Intel Core 2 Duo" or "very recent video card" before, but I belieave this could be the difference between the other pc driv3r played successfully on. If this is the problem I'm pretty sure there is no fix.

I don't see how there is an incompatibility issue though.
Within the next six months I plan to upgrade my computer, and then I can give you a better answer 8) because I can swap video cards, cpu ect. easily to target the problem.

Some games don't like newer hardware, I got "Colin McRae Rally 2005", earlier last year and my computer couldn't play it and I was well over the required specifications. So if anything it's a compatibility issue with your newer hardware. I cannot exactly target the issue until I can afford to experiment with newer hardware.

Sorry I couldn't be of much assistance.
Apparently driv3r isn't discontinued and is being revived.
I assume this is the product your purchased.

Try reinstalling. Then try compatibility mode. If you have Vista, that can be the problem. There are Vista patches for Driv3r.
