Modding discussion for Driver: San Francisco.

If at least one of these is possible, would you do it, search it up or recommend it? I'd attempt texture modding and most likely nothing else, since I'd most likely FAIL at anything else. I would like to see some real cars, like the thousands of Grand Theft Autos leading up to San Andreas. I'd like to see mods to make a city more like it's real-life counterpart, or just to increase the fun of a real or fake city, were ever Ubi heads.

I'd love to have the ability to be able to mod the next driver game.
I think this is a must so we can add some of our own user-created content.

I at the moment am working on a Ford Mustang Model.
I've spent 25 hours on it so far and it's looking pretty good.
I've so far have completed about 40% of it.
It's high poly, so it won't run in a game engine unfortuatly.
But I can always create a low-poly version of the model!

Any pictures ? :)

How do you do this, with a 3D program ? Everything I'm doing with 3D is interior design.

At the moment I'm using 3d max, the same program I seen reflections used when modeling their vehicles. But you can use any 3d program to model a vehicle. Like Maya, XSI, Blender. But I find 3d max the most logical to use.

I'll post some render soon :)

3d max is a good program for articture, I haven't used it but I think revit is also another good app. If your a student of any school you can take advantage of being a student and get most of the autodesk products for free for a 14 month period. As long as you have a school email address if not there are other options.

Unfortuatly they don't offer 3d max for free, but a student license of max is fairly cheap, otherwise you could use the Personal Learning Edition of Maya which I belieave is pretty good.

To learn more about get student licences visit
students.autodesk.com

On a sidenote, just do a search for the program your using, what you want to learn and then tutorial and you'll find many tutorials with google.

In some cases Students have more time than the fully employeed, therfor they get into the modding community easier and I think reflections making their games fully modable with Maya PLE and 3d max would be awsome and for those who arn't students and don't want to pay for these products should try Blender, a free 3d modeling alternative.

I have Blender and I use it for 3D modelling, but for enterior design I use Microspot Interiors. I wouldn't mind paying for a good 3D program.

I unfortunately can't run 3DS Max on my computer, because I'm on a Mac, but they are a lot of other good 3D & Architecture programs for Apple.

BTW, I think it's called 3DS Max, no ? I may be wrong.

You could use Zmodeler. I've seen people doing great 3D model with it. And it's free ;).

Yeah, it's 3DS Max, for "3D Studio Max". I tend to miss the "S" but it's not really all that important. Theres only one 3d program with the word max.

I believe there is a Mac version of Maya.
It doesn't have any architectural focus, but it's one of the most powerful 3d modeling applications.

Also be sure to try a demo before you pay so much!
and of course student versions are fairly cheap.

from what I can remember

Student 3dsmax $250
Commercial 3dmax $6000

and of course Student version of Maya is free :).

Just released the subject a little and you can get Maya for Mac. Here is a link = http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/i ... ition.html

I think renders have watermarks on them, but at least it give you some insight on what Maya can do.

Also I was just reading this page
http://forums.appleinsider.com/archive/ ... 47471.html
and it talks about; maya being very rare in UK game development companies!

Some people on this page also speak about using 3dmax on boot camp (for max) http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=192413

from what I remember you can only model things in zmodeler, and you don't have the greatest control and power like you have in blender. Of course naturally 3d max/maya/xsi has more power because of all the developers working on it.

Zmodeler was really only designed for making vehicles for NFS. Then they intergreated many other games. But nothing beats getting a plugin for Blender or similar.

Thanks for the link, however I have to give them my personal information like phone number and address, I don't want that. I will look if I can get it somewhere else when I get some time.

Wow, I'm really looking forward to this new release for the Driver franchise. I really hope it supports mods, because "Driver : You Are The Wheelman" was the first computer game I was really into. My enthusiam for this driving game led me to work on a map for a different fully modable driving game and create my fansite http://thomasbelvin.50webs.biz/driver.html I would love to make a map for this game!
